Junior School approach road TRO now in force and resurfacing update

The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is now in force on the road by The Green, leading up to the Junior School.

The TRO is a legally enforcable restriction on vehicles on that stretch of road during its hours of operation – 8:30 to 9:30am and 3 to 4pm on weekdays. Any vehicle not having legitimate grounds (which does not include dropping a child off at the school) to be there during these times is liable for a ticket with a fine.

The restriction was brought in following concerns about the dangerous mix of cars, parents and children, with a number of reported near misses being witnessed over many years. The school has produced a leaflet explaining the change, its benefits and details of some local businesses allowing drop-offs in their parking spaces – please contact the school office for a copy.

Sunday 23 November – Resurfacing

The County Council has now written to residents explaining the arrangements for the resurfacing:

“We will shortly be undertaking works to improve the road surface of the carriageway adjacent The Green – leading to the Primary School.

Work will commence on the morning of Sunday 23rd November 2014 at 8:00, and we estimate the works will be completed by 17:00 hours.

Due to the high volume and depth of the works to be undertaken, we would kindly ask for the co-operation of all residents who live on or in the vicinity of this site to remove vehicles before the works start time. Parked vehicles may mean areas are left un-repaired or delay works being completed.

Unfortunately, during working hours vehicular access/exit will not be possible, and we would therefore kindly ask residents to seek alternative safe parking somewhere in the village.

We would like to suggest an alternative parking arrangement via the public car park at the rear of the florist/bookmakers as a possible option. Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained at all times, but please liaise with the traffic management personnel on site.

Whilst we will endeavour to keep to our programme it is a fact that inclement weather can affect progress. If this is the case, the work may have to be re-programmed.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these works, but thank you for your co-operation and understanding during this busy works programme.

If you have any queries regarding these works please use the following details to contact me: 0345 045 5212 highways@cambridgeshire.co.uk

Yours faithfully

Sharon Maloney
Local Highway Officer
Local Infrastructure and Street Management”

Junior School approach road to be resurfaced – Sunday 23rd November

The Parish Council is pleased to be able to confirm that the road beside The Green leading to the Junior School is to be resurfaced on Sunday the 23rd November.

Work will start at 8am and likely finish at 3 between 4pm. Whilst this is an early start for a Sunday morning, it is a one-off, to everyone’s benifit and has been pushed back from 7:30am at the Parish Council’s request.

Residents will receive a letter from the County Council shortly, but are requested to have moved any motor vehicles out of the area the night before and certainly by 8am on the day, as no access can be provided after this time. The Parish Council’s car park off the High Street is available during this time.

This work will follow hard on the heels of the experimental Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) coming in to force. The signs are finally to be installed this week after some delay. This will legally restrict vehicle access up to the Junior School from 8:30am to 9:30am and 3pm to 4pm Monday to Friday.

CAB supported role in Histon Library

A volunteer advice drop-in has started at the library every week . It in will support people to access advice on-line and also help them make an appointment with Cambridge Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) if this is required. The volunteer has previous CAB experience and this should be a real asset for Histon & Impington.

The drop-in service is available on Monday’s between 10 and 12am

This service is being provided by Care Network Cambridgeshire in partnership with the Cambridge CAB.

Ring Fort Path foot & cycleway consultation

The County Council is looking at ways to provide a more direct access for pedestrians and cyclists from Orchard Park to Histon and Impington. Developers in the area have contributed £350,000 towards a new path. This would provide a link from the end of Ring Fort Road up the A14 interchange embankment to existing foot and cycleways along the B1049.

Click here for a copy of the consultation document.

Alternatively you can go online (click here) for more information and to complete the consultation survey there.
