Solar Together Cambridgeshire

If you are thinking about solar panels and/or battery storage systems, you may be interested in the Solar Together Cambridgeshire group buying scheme.

Run by Cambridgeshire County Council in partnership with the Cambridgeshire district councils with the aim of helping the county in our journey to net zero carbon emissions, this is second time the scheme has run in Cambridgeshire.  Almost 1,000 households, including a good number in Histon and Impington,  benefited from the initial scheme which completed last year.

How does it work?

  • Register online – for free and without obligation.  You fill in the details of your roof like size and position.
  • An auction is held with pre-vetted installers submitting bids.  The more people register, the better the deal for each household.
  • From 4 April you will be emailed a personal recommendation based on your registration details.  This includes the costs and specification of your solar panel installation and the option to add battery storage.
  • The decision is then yours as to whether you want to accept your offer.  There is no obligation to continue.  You will have until 13 May to decide.
  • If you accept the offer, the winning installer will contact you to survey your roof and set an installation date.  All installations are planned to be completed by the end of October 2022.

The auction has already taken place on 15 March, but it’s not too late to register though you need to do so by 3 April.

Elections Just Ahead!

Elections for the new Council will take place on 5th May 2022!

The Notice of Election was published on 28th March, opening the nomination period for candidates. There are 8 places for Impington candidates, and 11 for Histon. Nominations must be submitted by hand to South Cambridgeshire District Council at Cambourne before 4pm on 5th April.  You will need a nominator and seconder from the Parish and appearing on the Electoral Roll to qualify. If insufficient candidates come forward to fill the 19 places, there will be no election but if more than 19 are nominated there will likely be a formal election, except if withdrawals are received within a short timeframe.

Nomination packs are available to download from the South Cambridgeshire District Council website click here to be re-directed to the page. If you would like a paper copy of the nomination pack please email helpdesk@hisimp.net.

Histon & Impington Parish Council have made an appointment to deliver all nomination forms received by end of today (31st March 2022) to South Cambridgeshire District Council tomorrow at 8.30am.   If you can deliver your forms to the Parish Office by 2pm this afternoon then we will deliver your completed form on your behalf.

Please contact the Parish Office if you wish to learn more about the opportunity to become a Parish Councillor for Histon and Impington. We would be delighted to hear from you!

Green Bin Collections

We have received the following update from South Cambridgeshire District Council:

Green bin collections will resume from this Wednesday, 12 January, and we are asking residents to put their green bins out on their scheduled collection day. We’re also reminding people to check the existing (festive) schedule (as printed in South Cambs Magazine and available on the website), because collection days are not yet back into the normal repeat pattern following the bank holidays over Christmas and New Year.

The intention is to empty all green bins in line with the published schedule. However, because there are still several absences and vacancies, any green bins that are missed will not be emptied until the next scheduled collection in February. This is because there are not enough waste crews to return to empty these missed green bins. Any homes that are unfortunately missed will be prioritised for the subsequent collection.

The next green bin collection for Histon and Impington is scheduled on Saturday 22nd January with the blue bin followed by Friday 18th February.

Weekend Weather Warning

We have recieived the following advice from South Cambs District Council:

Bearing in mind the severe weather warning that is in place for heavy rain across much of southern England (including South Cambridgeshire) on Saturday and Sunday, we wanted to remind you of how the Council can help some residents whose properties are at imminent risk of flooding. Depending on the amount of rain, it is however worth bearing in mind that it may be the case that drains simply cannot get water away from an area fast enough.

As mentioned on our website, we have a supply of sandbags / Floodsax that can be delivered to domestic properties that are about to flood. As you’d expect, this is primarily aimed at our most vulnerable residents. Residents requesting these sandbags / Floodsax during normal office hours should call us on 03450 450 063 or email streets@scambs.gov.uk –  If it is outside of normal office hours and an emergency then please contact our out of hours number for Environmental Health Emergency on 01253 501 055. However, please bear in mind that we have a limited supply of sandbags / Floodsax and, depending on resources, it will likely take officers some time to deliver them. This is why it is so important to make preparations before a flood risk becomes imminent.

There are more useful tips for preparing for floods in the attached recent South Cambs Magazine articles below.

Neighbourhood Plan Result

After several years of hard work by Parish Councillors and residents of our villages, the Neighbourhood Plan reached its final stage on Thursday 6th May, the referendum stage, and we would like to say a huge thank you to all those who voted to adopt the plan. The Parish Council Planning Committee can now reference the plan in our responses to complex large developments, and it will help us to engage with developers.

The Parish Council intends to keep evolving the plan via future editions in order to keep pace with changes, but with this plan in force we have a solid baseline for the next update.

Our thanks go to all who helped to create the Plan in all its versions, and we thank you, as residents, for helping us to get this plan through.

Solar Together Cambridge

☀️ You only have 24 hours left to register your interest in our solar group-buying scheme

💡 Sign up at www.scambs.gov.uk/climate-change/solar-together-cambridgeshire

Solar Together Cambridge – SCDC are working with Cambridgeshire County Council to deliver the initiative, which is a group-buying scheme to help residents and businesses purchase high-quality and competitively priced solar panels and battery storage systems for solar panels. The battery element is particularly useful as it means the scheme may be of interest to those whose roofs already have solar panels. Residents have until 6 October to register your interest. You will then be provided with a personalised recommendation and the decision about whether to have the install completed is completely yours – there is no obligation.
