Save our station

Remember this? Well just last week we saw the latest development plans which really are very exciting.

Unfortunately the station building itself has had three break-ins in recent weeks. These have been reported as criminal damage to the police and as yet the culprit have not been apprehended.

Please, everybody, let’s be vigilant and not let this community asset be further damaged just at the time when we’ll see it restored to some reflection of its former glory.

“Op Hunter” Crime Prevention

The first Histon Sector event will be held in Papworth Everard on Tuesday 7th June at the village hall on Ermine Street South between 5pm and 8 pm. Cambridgeshire Constabulary are encouraging residents to get involved. They are giving the community the opportunity to meet their local policing team and receive security advice on how to protect their home. There will also be the opportunity to buy security products at a discounted price and get your property coded. For more information contact Thomas Baugh at Thomas.baugh@cambs.pnn.police.uk

Double Yellow lines on New Road finally arrive

The County Council have now put in place the double yellow lines along one side of New Road.

This was funded by a scheme focused on keeping buses moving through the village and was consulted on last year; due consideration was taken of comments received including some objections. A similar scheme on Cambridge Road has not proceeded.

The lines are along the side of the road which is very rarely used for parking, and in that sense merely forces ‘normality’; however there have been regular problems during specific events in the area where both buses have been unable to get through and which would prevent emergency access to the events themselves.

Double yellow lines also apply to the pavement and verge behind them.

Parking is a contentious issue in many parts of the villages and residents near IVC report being having their drives blocked on occasions. The Parish Council’s Highways Committee is developing a parking strategy and policy. This would encourage parking with consideration and not on pavements – which causes problems for more vulnerable road users – including pedestrians, pushchairs and mobility scooters.

March Full Council

Full Council was held on Monday 21st March, when PCSO Tony Martin attended to update the Council on Policing issues and take questions.  Unfortunately no residents attended, but Tony was able to outline current challenges faced, and to promote the Big Bad Wolf House Security Survey which all residents are urged to take part in to identify home security risks and take up the offer of help and advice from the Police on improving security.  Go to http://tinyurl.com/bad-wolf-test or on the Policing South Cambridgeshire Facebook page

Histon and Impington Fireworks Extravaganza 2015

This year’s Firework Extravaganza will be held on Saturday 7 November at Impington Village College.

Advance tickets are now on sale through the schools and at a range of village shops – Tucker Gardner, Daisy Chain, Histon Chop Shop, the Geographer, Station Stores and D:Licious.  Advance tickets are cheaper and you’ll avoid queues on the night.

Gates open at 6pm with the fireworks at 7pm.  The Junior School PTA will be selling hot drinks and fabulous home made cakes and the BBQ and hog roast run will be run by David Robinson.  There’ll also be a small fairground to keep young children amused.

We’re grateful to our lead sponsor, Tucker Gardner, and the sponsorship and support of Limetree, Brookfield Groundcare, The Red Lion, and Enterprise Hire .

National Rural Crime Network – Have Your Say!

Cambridgeshire Constabulary are part of a major survey being undertaken by the National Rural Crime Network into rural crime.

The survey into crime and anti-social Behaviour (ASB) in rural areas seeks to find out how the police can better serve rural communities. They are inviting people who work or live in rural areas to come forward and give their views on policing in their community, the impact crime and ASB has on them and their neighbours and to ultimately help shape the future of crime prevention and rural policing.

The survey will be open until Wednesday 24 June. To complete the survey, visit http://www.nationalruralcrimenetwork.net/survey?member=Cambridgeshire

Home Security Event – Thursday 4th December

We have received this item from PCSO Tony Martin in a recent Police Weekly Update mail:

“With all of the problems we have experienced in the village this year and the increase in Burglaries I have decided to arrange a “Home Security Event”. This will be held at the Community Room at the Recreation Ground in New Road, Impington on Thursday 4th December between 14:00 hrs and 17:00 hrs. It will be a multi-agency event with representatives from The Police Crime Reduction Unit, Fire Safety, The Bobby Scheme, Neighbourhood Watch, South Cambridgeshire District Council, Trading Standards, Rough Traders, Dent Security and more. Everyone will have a stand where there will be information leaflets and freebies to take away. I am hoping to have some shed alarms, window alarms and Smart Water which you can purchase for a small nominal fee.

This event is free and open to all residents of Histon, Impington and Orchard Park. Please come along and support this event. If there is enough support for this event and a large turnout of locals I may arrange another evening event for early 2015.”

Junior School approach road TRO now in force and resurfacing update

The Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is now in force on the road by The Green, leading up to the Junior School.

The TRO is a legally enforcable restriction on vehicles on that stretch of road during its hours of operation – 8:30 to 9:30am and 3 to 4pm on weekdays. Any vehicle not having legitimate grounds (which does not include dropping a child off at the school) to be there during these times is liable for a ticket with a fine.

The restriction was brought in following concerns about the dangerous mix of cars, parents and children, with a number of reported near misses being witnessed over many years. The school has produced a leaflet explaining the change, its benefits and details of some local businesses allowing drop-offs in their parking spaces – please contact the school office for a copy.

Sunday 23 November – Resurfacing

The County Council has now written to residents explaining the arrangements for the resurfacing:

“We will shortly be undertaking works to improve the road surface of the carriageway adjacent The Green – leading to the Primary School.

Work will commence on the morning of Sunday 23rd November 2014 at 8:00, and we estimate the works will be completed by 17:00 hours.

Due to the high volume and depth of the works to be undertaken, we would kindly ask for the co-operation of all residents who live on or in the vicinity of this site to remove vehicles before the works start time. Parked vehicles may mean areas are left un-repaired or delay works being completed.

Unfortunately, during working hours vehicular access/exit will not be possible, and we would therefore kindly ask residents to seek alternative safe parking somewhere in the village.

We would like to suggest an alternative parking arrangement via the public car park at the rear of the florist/bookmakers as a possible option. Pedestrian access to properties will be maintained at all times, but please liaise with the traffic management personnel on site.

Whilst we will endeavour to keep to our programme it is a fact that inclement weather can affect progress. If this is the case, the work may have to be re-programmed.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these works, but thank you for your co-operation and understanding during this busy works programme.

If you have any queries regarding these works please use the following details to contact me: 0345 045 5212 highways@cambridgeshire.co.uk

Yours faithfully

Sharon Maloney
Local Highway Officer
Local Infrastructure and Street Management”

Junior School approach road to be resurfaced – Sunday 23rd November

The Parish Council is pleased to be able to confirm that the road beside The Green leading to the Junior School is to be resurfaced on Sunday the 23rd November.

Work will start at 8am and likely finish at 3 between 4pm. Whilst this is an early start for a Sunday morning, it is a one-off, to everyone’s benifit and has been pushed back from 7:30am at the Parish Council’s request.

Residents will receive a letter from the County Council shortly, but are requested to have moved any motor vehicles out of the area the night before and certainly by 8am on the day, as no access can be provided after this time. The Parish Council’s car park off the High Street is available during this time.

This work will follow hard on the heels of the experimental Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) coming in to force. The signs are finally to be installed this week after some delay. This will legally restrict vehicle access up to the Junior School from 8:30am to 9:30am and 3pm to 4pm Monday to Friday.
