Queen’s 90th Birthday – Street Party Advice

We have received the following advice from Cambridgeshire County Council:

After the success of street parties to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in 2012, Cambridgeshire County Council is again making the road closure application process easier for anyone who wants to get their community together for the Queen’s 90th Birthday.

For small community events the council will not charge for road closures on cul-de-sac or residential roads without significant through traffic. If the closure is not one of these, please contact us for further advice and permissions.

There is no fee for a street party however we do ask you to complete an application form so we know when and where you are having these celebrations.

Click here for a copy of the application form, or collect a hard copy from the Parish Office.

If you have any queries or questions regarding street parties for events on the highway, please do not hesitate to contact Cambridgeshire County Council on 01223 507176 or email IHMC@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

Breaking News: Roadworks on High Street

The Parish Council has heard in the last couple of days that various small improvements to the High Street are to be carried out from today (Thursday 7th April) for the next 5 days.

Some of these improvements will necessitate up to 4-way traffic lights, which can introduce lengthy waits, so patience will be required.

It had been hoped that this would be carried out entirely during the school holidays, however, with the Junior and Infants on in-set on Monday the overlap will be minimised.

The work to be done includes a new bus stop by Winders Lane, a crossing point at the mouth of Home Close and improving the kerbing outside the Building Society.

There is also some work to ‘straighten’ the parking beside the new Zebra crossing which should make parking there easier. It is also intended to return some of the area to grass thus slightly extending the area of The Green.

Works to repair the A428 Cambridge Road bridge

We have received the following from Highways England:

Subject to weather conditions, we plan to close the A428 underneath the bridge to allow access to the embankment repairs east and westbound between the Madingley and Girton slip roads.

These works will include 24/7 static temporary traffic management lane closure of one of the two lanes with temporary vehicle restraint barrier. The remaining lane width will be reduced to 3.25m (10’ 6”) for the duration of the works.

The westbound A428 lane and width restrictions will commence from the 7 of April for up to 10 weeks and the eastbound A428 lane and width restriction will commence once work on the westbound carriageway has been completed, earliest 25 April for up to 10 weeks.

Please note it will not be possible for loads wider than 2.9m to pass whilst the restrictions are in place and if a vehicle is wider than 2.9m (9’ 6”) click here to view the attached diversion route which should be followed.

We apologise for any delays these works may create for your staff and customers.

If you have any enquiries please contact the Highways England Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000, or by e-mail to info@highwaysengland.co.uk

Guided Busway News – Track Closure 12-13 March

We have received the following from the Guided Busway Team:

Due to a track closure at Histon, some buses will be diverted and you may need to get on or off at a different stop

On Saturday 12 March route B towards Cambridge will be unable to serve the stop at Histon & Impington. Please use the stop on Cambridge Road, next to the shops, instead. Buses towards St. Ives are unaffected. Route B will also be unable to serve the stops in Orchard Park and will stop on Histon Road, just to the south of the King’s Hedges Road junction, instead. Buses towards St. Ives are unaffected.

Busway route A will be diverted through Orchard Park. Buses to Cambridge and St Ives will therefore operate on the opposite side to normal in Orchard Park and buses will still serve Cambridge Regional College and the Science Park as normal.

On Sunday 13 March route B will be unable to serve the stop at Histon & Impington towards Cambridge – please use the stop on Cambridge Road, next to the shops.

If you’re travelling to or from Orchard Park please use the stops on Histon Road, to the south of King’s Hedges Road. Orchard Park East and West cannot be served by route B.
