Please follow the guidance on the signage at each site, click here to view guidelines for the Village Green, Recreation Ground and South Road play areas. Click here to view guidelines for the Outdoor Gym at the Recreation Ground.

Thank you for your patience whilst the Parish Council has worked to ensure a safe re-opening.

Have fun and stay safe!

Play Areas to Remain Closed

Statement from Histon & Impington Parish Council:

‘The advice we are receiving is that it’s not yet safe to open equipped play areas (including outdoor gym) unless we can guarantee regular and effective hygiene measures (which at this time we are unable to do with our limited resources). We understand that many will be disappointed but expect that most people will understand this position. We will keep this situation under continuing review and will move quickly when it is safe and practical to reopen the play areas’.

May Full Council

Following the new regulations published as part of the Coronavirus Act 2020 allowing parish councils to meet virtually, Histon & Impington Parish Council held its first Virtual Full Council meeting on Monday 18th May 2020, click here to view the minutes.  Normally at this time of year we would be looking at the committee memberships, Chair and Vice Chair positions for the coming year, but the new Act allows for this to be postponed until May 2021, and so all the current Committee memberships will remain the same for the coming year, and the Chairman (Denis Payne) and Vice Chair (Yvonne Murray) will also retain their positions . The meeting discussed various council matters; two items of note are mentioned below.

Following the government’s update on May 11th regarding the re-opening of outdoor sports facilities, a discussion took part about how the facilities at the Recreation Ground could be safely used in the current environment. From the options available, it was decided to allow a phased re-opening of the Hard Tennis Court, MUGA, Cricket Practice Net, Bowling Green and Croquet area to club members only. This has been subject to each club producing guidelines on how they will manage bookings and ensure a safe playing environment in line with Government procedures, and each club has reviewed and adapted their sporting governing body guidelines to suit the facilities provided at the Recreation Ground.  These were submitted to the council, reviewed and agreed, to ensure safety measures were adequate, and if at any time, any club or government guidance is not adhered to or staff do not feel safe, staff will close the courts at no notice. Please contact the relevant clubs if you are interested in using the facilities at the moment.

Cllr David Jenkins also provided an update on the Neighbourhood Plan. This is now awaiting a referendum when the document will be finalised and signed off, once this has been completed the plan will be held by SCDC and will then have material weight in regards to planning considerations. The Parish Council was unanimous in endorsing the plan, and recorded a vote of thanks to Cllr Jenkins and the team that had worked on the plan for the leadership and work undertaken to get it to this stage. Cllr Jenkins also thanked the Parish Council for the support and advice that had been received from members.

HICovid19 weekly digest (29 May 20)

HI Covid-19 Response thought it would be useful to pull together some of the recent news about how our community is emerging from the lockdown. We’ll do this weekly and would appreciate any feedback.

But before we get into the detail a big thank you to the shops and takeaways that are already open and to everyone in our community who’s using them and showing such great self discipline in sticking to the social distancing rules. Please remember that some of these businesses have taken and are continuing to take an economic battering so give them all the support that you can.

. the King Bill is reintroducing its popular food stalls. Pizza Mondo will be with them for Saturdays every week for now. Pimp my Fish will be with them Fri 5th and 22nd June and Guerilla Kitchen Fri 12th and 29th June. It’s all pre order on 01223 233930. There’s no beer takeaways yet but hopefully soon.

. the Geographer (01223 233228) is reopening its delicatessen 2 Jun 20 for ‘shopping, take-out coffee and cake’

. sport is restarting at the Rec. The tennis (histontennisclub@gmail.com), cricket (01223 233861) and bowls (01223 232956) clubs are managing access to their facilities and bookings should be made through them. If you’re not a member but want to get some exercise then join up now!

. Milton Country park is open (thanks to South Cambs for making that possible).

. Kitchensmiths (01223 236456) kitchen shop on Station Road is reopening 1 Jun 20. You can book appointments on-line.

Finally a couple of key messages to keep in mind

. stay alert and look out for people who may find it difficult during these times. People do get depressed and worse and often don’t ask for help. Show a helping hand and be kind. If appropriate contact the HI Friends mental health hotline on 01223 320420; and

. we are very fortunate in Histon & Impington in having a very low level of infection and being so well-served by our shops and services. The lockdown is not over so please continue to follow the rules. Social distancing is still vitally important

Histon & Impington Parish Council – Update

Histon & Impington Parish Council staff are continuing to work to support our community. The Recreation Ground is being maintained, facilities and open spaces across the village are also being checked and maintained, and the office team is contributing to the COVID19 volunteer response across the village.

Usually in May, the Parish Council is busy preparing for the Annual Parish Meeting and the Annual General Meeting. These meetings look back at the previous years’ projects and spending as well as the policies, Standing Orders and Financial Regulations of the Council. The AGM also elects Councillors to key roles for the coming year – including Chairman, Vice-Chairman etc.

In April, the Coronavirus Act 2020 was passed, and associated regulations published, and removed the need for the Annual Meetings. The regulations also formalised the use of virtual meetings. Following this guidance, we will not be holding the APM or AGM this year, but will review the policies in due course as part of our regular cycle of meetings.

Denis Payne will therefore continue as Chairman, and Yvonne Murray as Vice-Chairman. They, and the office team, welcome mails and phone calls as always from residents on any matters – we’re still here to make a difference!

Histon & Impington Covid-19 community response

A team has been set up and a network of volunteers established to help our community to get through the current Covid-19 related situation. The team is doing its best to ensure that those in our community who need extra help are able to access it and that the availability of goods and services from the High Street and beyond is maintained.

To support its activity and to act as a central point for easy access to key information a web-site has been set up at www.hicovid19.online. There is continuing information available at the HI Hub

Play Area Closures – Histon & Impington

It is with a very heavy heart, Histon & Impington Parish Council have decided to close the Recreation Ground play area and public toilets, The Green Play area and the South Road play area with immediate effect (today).

This decision taken is to protect the health and welfare of our staff and visitors by restricting any potential spread of the coronavirus. The good weather, school closures and extra pressure from other local park’s closing means we are concerned we could have more numbers than we feel is manageable under the Government’s social distancing recommendations.

We strongly believe that green spaces are vital to our health and well-being and that they will play a very important role in our recovery, for this reason and due to its size, the Recreation Ground field will remain open for the time being.

Update from Histon & Impington Parish Council

Following Government Guidelines, Histon & Impington Parish Council have taken the decision to close the Recreation Centre including outdoor facilities and the Parish Office. Office staff will be working from home, usual Office hours. We will endeavour to operate business as usual, but there may be a delay getting back to you whilst we settle into working from a new environment.  You can still contact the Parish Council by phone or email.

All Council meetings have been postponed until further notice.

If you have a booking in the Community Room, MUGA or Hardcourt you will be contacted by the Office Manager.

These measures are being taken to protect both our residents and staff and to enable the Parish Council to continue to function and offer support to those who may need it.
