Station Road, Histon – Works Notification

Cambridgeshire County Council are now undertaking works to widen the pavement on Station Road between the Saffron Road junction and the Co-Op (odd number side only). This is a planning condition of the recent extension at Histon and Impington Junior School.

Work has been programmed from Thursday 25th July to last six weeks.

To enable these works to be completed in a safe and efficient manner this part of Station Road, from Saffron Road to the High Street, will be controlled by 24 hour traffic lights. The road will be closed entirely for up to three days from 28th August to allow associated works to the speed hump closest to the High Street.

If you have any questions or concerns whilst the contractor is on site, please contact Cambridgeshire County Council’s Highways Information Service on 0345 0455 212

Level 3 Heat Wave Warning

We have received the following information from the Met Office:

The Met Office has issued a level 3 hot weather warning across Cambridgeshire – lasting until Saturday (27 July) morning. Temperatures are predicted to remain over 30 degrees over the next few days, with warm and humid conditions expected to continue overnight.

Hot weather can be uncomfortable for most people. However for the old, very young and those with an ongoing health condition it can have very negative effect upon their health. There some key actions people can take to reduce the ill effects of very hot weather.

If you know or work with these and any other vulnerable people who may be at risk of becoming unwell in high temperatures please check on them and take action to lessen the effects of the heat.

Here are some practical tips on how to stay cool and beat the heat:

  • Shade or cover windows that are exposed to direct sunlight during the day, and open windows at night when the temperature has dropped
  • Drink plenty of water as sugary, alcoholic and caffeinated drinks, including tea and coffee, can make you more dehydrated
  • Make sure you take water with you if you are travelling or out and about
  • If you are working or going outdoors during the heatwave make sure you are protected with sun screen, and keep yourself hydrated by consuming plenty of water.
  • Walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a hat, if you have to go out in the heat
  • Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals
  • Try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm
  • Avoid physical exertion in the hottest parts of the day
  • Wear light, loose fitting cotton clothes

Monday 1st July 2019, 4-8pm, St Andrew’s Centre, Histon

Over recent months and in parallel with the final work on the Neighbourhood Plan (NP), another group in Histon & Impington has been working with South Cambs to develop a Village Design Guide (VDS). This replaces the Design Guide which was a part of version 2.0 of the NP and builds on the concepts already developed.

This is a South Cambs document, it brought in experts in the field and picked up 50% of the cost, and it is now consulting on it. There will be a consultation event at the St Andrew’s Centre on Monday 1 July between 4 and 8pm.
