Green Bin Collections

We have received the following update from South Cambridgeshire District Council:

Green bin collections will resume from this Wednesday, 12 January, and we are asking residents to put their green bins out on their scheduled collection day. We’re also reminding people to check the existing (festive) schedule (as printed in South Cambs Magazine and available on the website), because collection days are not yet back into the normal repeat pattern following the bank holidays over Christmas and New Year.

The intention is to empty all green bins in line with the published schedule. However, because there are still several absences and vacancies, any green bins that are missed will not be emptied until the next scheduled collection in February. This is because there are not enough waste crews to return to empty these missed green bins. Any homes that are unfortunately missed will be prioritised for the subsequent collection.

The next green bin collection for Histon and Impington is scheduled on Saturday 22nd January with the blue bin followed by Friday 18th February.

Christmas Tree Chipping event Saturday 8th January 2021

Brookfield Contracting have, once again, kindly offered to help chip our village Christmas Trees this year, in conjunction with the enviro.volunteers.  Trees can be left on the triangle of land near Villa Road and on the Green as usual and will be chipped on the following date:

Saturday 8th January 2022 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Trees for chipping MUST be left at either site by 11 a.m. at the latest or they will not be chipped. Please do not leave trees on the sites after this date.

Village Green Christmas Lights

You may notice a small change to this years Christmas light display on the Village Green. Unfortunately, the existing mulitiude of little lights in the big tree near the Play Area failed their final safety check just before the switch on. We think the squirrels have nibbled the wiring over time.

We will be replacing these lights with uplighters for this year with the hope to have these back up and twinkling even brighter for next year!

Storm Arwen

Storm Arwen has been named and is forecast to bring a period of very strong winds and cold weather to the UK this weekend.

The strong winds may cause some tree damage in the villages, please be aware of possible dangers walking beside wooded areas when it is windy. There maybe a risk of falling dead wood and in extreme cases trees either fracturing or becoming uprooted.

An initial public engagement on the developing Local Transport and Connectivity Plan will begin on Monday, November 1, lasting for four weeks and closing on November 28. The feedback will influence and feed into the next phase of engagement – a formal six-week public consultation, currently planned for January.
