Casual Vacancy

A vacancy has arisen on the Parish Council following the resignation of Marcus Romer.

The Parish Council hope to fill this vacancy by co-option at the next meeting on 15th July 2019.  If you would be interested in being considered for this opportunity, please can you write or email by 8th July with your brief reasons for wishing to stand.  If more than one applicant comes forward there would be a vote amongst the existing Council members to fill the position.

Full Council meetings are held the third Monday monthly and there are other Committees and Working Parties you can join if you wish.

Clerk’s Retirement

Angela Young is retiring at the end of June after 25 years in post, and the Council took a few minutes to mark the occasion at her last Full Council meeting.   We are happy to confirm that Chelsea O’Brien who has been Deputy Clerk for some time, will be taking on the Clerk’s role from 1 July.

New Apprentice in the Office

We have a Business Administration apprentice starting at the Parish office at the beginning of July.  Amelia will become involved in as much of the Council’s work as possible during her time with us and should fit in very nicely with the current set up.  Please take time to call in and say hello if you are out and about near the offices on the recreation ground.

A14 Landscaping Group – plans for Tree Planting

The Action Group made a pitch for kick-start funding for a Green Gateway Tree Planting Project at the entrance to the villages.  The idea is to establish 4 acres of new woodland on land following the mass removal of trees along the A14 junction.  The Council were delighted to commit £3,000 to this project and look forward to hearing about its development and new of  further funding sources.  The Council congratulates the group, with this project being led by Dan Mace.

The next scheduled meeting of Full Council will be held on Monday 15th July at the Recreation Community Room, New Road, Impington.  Refreshments are available from 7 p.m.

Have Your Say – Histon & Impington Neighbourhood Plan

Histon & Impington Parish Council submitted its Neighbourhood Plan to SCDC on 3rd June 2019. SCDC is seeking yours views on the Neighbourhood Plan before its considered by an examiner, and can proceed towards a referendum.

Comments can be submitted to SCDC until 5pm on Wednesday 31st July 2019

There are a number of ways that you can comment:

Histon & Impington Village Design Guide – Consultation Event

Monday 1st July 2019, 4-8pm, St Andrew’s Centre, Histon

Over recent months and in parallel with the final work on the Neighbourhood Plan (NP), another group in Histon & Impington has been working with South Cambs to develop a Village Design Guide (VDS). This replaces the Design Guide which was a part of version 2.0 of the NP and builds on the concepts already developed.

This is a South Cambs document, it brought in experts in the field and picked up 50% of the cost, and it is now consulting on it. There will be a consultation event at the St Andrew’s Centre on Monday 1 July between 4 and 8pm.

An Extra Ordinary Full Council Meeting has been called by the Chairman for Thursday 16th May, 7.30pm at Impington Church Hall. Click here to view the agenda.

Annual Parish Meetings – Histon and Impington

Every English parish must have a parish meeting and as we are two parishes this means we should have two of them!

To overcome this, ours will be one concurrent parish meeting for both Histon and Impington residents

As no electors have called the meetings, the Chair of the Parish Council has convened a meeting for Monday 13 May and has invited the Project Director, Highways England to give us all an update on the A14 Improvements programme timetable

Why not come along, this is an opportunity to ask questions that concern you about life in our villages, all electors welcome!

Job Vacancy – Histon & Impington Parish Council

Do you know anyone looking for local, part-time, interesting work?

We are looking for a part time Committee Clerk / Information Officer to join our busy office team at Histon & Impington Parish Council.  Initially hours will be 20 hours per week, flexible by agreement, with a start date as soon as possible.  Attendance at some evening meetings will be required.

The Council has significant funds which it intends to use in innovative ways for the benefit of its community and is already investing in community services for both the younger population and the older people.

We have a staff of 6 employees covering both administration and ground work and with the retirement of our current Clerk are now seeking an enthusiastic individual to assist in taking the Council forward with specific responsibilities for:

  • Committees – including compiling agendas, reports and minute taking
  • Democratic support, and upkeep of our records and social media outlets
  • General office administration as part of a team
  • Customer service duties
  • Holiday and absence cover

The ideal candidate will be computer literate with good interpersonal and organisational skills.  Candidates must be willing to undertake professional training and be willing to work towards the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA).  A flexible approach to working pattern and evening commitments will be required.

The salary will be pro rata £19,554 – £21,589 (LC1 scale 7 – 12) with the starting point based on qualifications and experience.

We have received formal notification from South Cambridgeshire District Council, the application submitted by Flagship Housing Group Limited for the land to the South of Milton Road is now validated and the consultation period is open.

March Full Council

Full Council was held on Monday 18 March, sadly once again with no residents present.

Summer Reading Challenge at Histon Library

We were delighted to once again support the reading challenge this summer with a donation of £400, being £200 towards this event and the remainder to help facilitate further support workers for young readers during the year

Feast Road Closure

The Council was also pleased to be able to fund the road closure required for the Feast Festival this year in the sum of £1,231 including VAT.   We all look forward to a great Festival with lots of stalls along the High Street and hope the weather is kind!

Crossing Keeper’s Hut Electricity

The Chairman mentioned in his monthly report how the planned project to install an electricity supply at the Hut in The Copse had been completed.  He thanked all those involved in the successful delivery of this very positive improvement for the area
