A film crew from Channel 4’s new Village of The Year Show were welcomed in Histon & Impington on Tuesday 18th July.
Having already done some filming at the fantastic Feast Festival event on 2nd July, they followed up with a whole day of interviews and filming with the lovely Dame Penelope Keith on what was a beautiful sunny day.
In the new series, actress Penelope Keith will preside over heats, semi-finals and final, with a panel of expert judges deciding which villages will progress through the rounds before revealing their winner some time in October, based on the following criteria:
Appearance; History & Heritage; Village Events; Activities; and Visitor Experience.

They will award their chosen village with the accolade of Village of the Year and £10,000 to be used for a worthwhile community project.
On launching the series, Reef Television said “Penelope is the perfect host to help us celebrate all that is best about British villages and this series will shine a spotlight on not just the places, but also the people that make up Britain’s best villages.
Well if Carlsberg made villages ……… !!
There’s an annual planing of daffodils day? I though that was just me on the “Manorial Waste”…
Good luck with the process. I hope it leaves us modestly proud of our diverse community. No mention of the hugely successful annual firework event, which draws big crowds from inside and outside the villages each year, competing well with the big event in cambridge despite charging entry (which raises very helpful donations to each of the three school PTAs.
