The Parish Council has heard in the last couple of days that various small improvements to the High Street are to be carried out from today (Thursday 7th April) for the next 5 days.
Some of these improvements will necessitate up to 4-way traffic lights, which can introduce lengthy waits, so patience will be required.
It had been hoped that this would be carried out entirely during the school holidays, however, with the Junior and Infants on in-set on Monday the overlap will be minimised.
The work to be done includes a new bus stop by Winders Lane, a crossing point at the mouth of Home Close and improving the kerbing outside the Building Society.
There is also some work to ‘straighten’ the parking beside the new Zebra crossing which should make parking there easier. It is also intended to return some of the area to grass thus slightly extending the area of The Green.
Is it really necessary to modify the kerbing outside the building society and mess around with the parking bays (yet again). Also returning some of the area to grass – does that mean reducing the width of the pavement?
Resurfacing the road by the butchers would be a better use of ther money being spent
The Zebra crossing needs repairing. Needs to be designed so that the rain water runs away, rather than causing a huge puddle at The Village Green side of the crossing.
Cathy, this was discussed at the Highways Committee on Thursday. We’re aware of the problem, but have had conflicting advice from County officers as to whether anything can be done. We will continue to raise it, including when the current works have otherwise been completed. Thanks.
