Arbury Road Cycleway Scheme – Extension to Road Closure

We have received the following project update from Cambridgeshire County Council:

Unfortunately, due to a set of unforeseen circumstances surrounding additional works required by Anglian Water in providing a positive drainage system to the new works outside the school it has been necessary to extend the Road Closure by another two weeks.

The contractor, John Henry Group, has worked tirelessly in an effort to ensure the works were completed on time but on Friday 26th August  a decision was made that even with their best endeavours, due to the above, an extension in time would now be required.

The Head at St Laurence school has been notified and arrangements will be made to ensure staff are able to access the school car park during the normal working day.

From Monday 5th September safe pedestrian access will be maintained for parents and children via Kings Hedges Road and from St.Albans Road. Parents arriving by car are advised to follow the diversion routes already in place and have been asked not attempt to use the school car park for drop off and collection.  Parents will be notified of this via Parent Mail.

Cambridgeshire County Council apologise for the inconvenience this will cause but are working extremely hard with the contractor to ensure this disruption is kept to an absolute minimum. It is hoped that not all of the second week will be required.

  1. “The contractor, John Henry Group, has worked tirelessly” – what rubbish! Whenever I have been near the site, there has not been any work going on. It is high time we stopped accepting these lame excuses from the services (contractors) for extended road closures. Local council should automatically impose penalties for any overruns. You will them see that these works will all finish as scheduled.

  2. Hi, How can I find out whether the (in this case, County) Council has late completion penalties as part of any of its contracts?
