Over the last couple of years we have had some great sporting events which the Friends of the Rec have been able to celebrate on the Rec. We are fortunate that 2014 is no exception with the arrival of the Tour De France (le Tour) in Cambridge on Monday 7th July.
The County Council is organising a ‘Velo Fest’ to celebrate the le Tour and the Rec Fest will form part of the Velo Fest and will include:
- Street Velodrome on the Histon FC car park.
- Street Velodrome is the world’s only pop-up track racing style cycle event and is touring the UK during 2014 as a televised series. Created to reflect the growing appetite for the drama and excitement of cycle sport and the broad appeal of Olympic style track racing Street Velodrome offers riders a thrilling, adrenaline filled riding experience and, for spectators, a close racing spectacle with an exciting and accessible appeal.
- Bike try out show
- Dr Bike
- Smoothie Bike
- Pedal powdered scalextrics
- Cambridge News Big Bike Ride: the Rec Festival event will be one of three venues on the Big Bike Ride along with Coton and the City Centre.
- Histon & Impington Bicycle club stall
