Diabetes

The Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the body that spends most of the NHS money in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, has issued a useful booklet ‘could you have type 2 diabetes?’. Copies are available at the parish office and, presumably, at Firs House Surgery and Histon Library. It gives you a simple way to calculate your risk.

If you can’t pick up a booklet then got to http://riskscore.diabetes.org.uk/start. It’s an easy process and it even lets you mix imperial and metric measurements. That’s useful for me because I always weigh myself in kilo but remember my height in feet and inches!

Problem is you can’t change many of the risk factors, they go with your age, sex, ethnicity and family history. The only controllables seem to be weight and blood pressure so I guess it’s down to diet and exercise.
