Works Notification – Footpath Resurfacing

Cambridgeshire County Council will be closing a number of footpaths in Histon and Impington from 0730 – 1830 from the week commencing 09/07/18, for roughly two weeks. For the duration of the works a local diversion route will be in place for pedestrians and cyclists.

As part of the 17/18 Local Highways Initiative process, Cambridgeshire County Council in conjunction with Histon & Impington Parish Council are making improvements to the following footpaths:

  • Saffron Road
  • Greenleas
  • Kingsway
  • Pages Close

More details of the areas we will be working in and the associated diversion routes can be seen here. Please note the improvements will be place to place along all the footpaths in question, picking up the worst areas and any remaining wherever possible.

In addition to the above, Histon & Impington Parish Council will also be installing a number of new cycle racks outside the Post Office and the local Co-Op.

  1. The information is misleading as it states saffron rd and the footpath mentioned is not actually saffron road. This footpath is used heavily used by school children avoiding roads in the village which get congested in rush hour. Why not wait till the school holidays they start in 2 weeks.

  2. Whilst welcomed, why are main traffic free paths for both infant and juniors being closed in term time so close to the end of term? Can works not wait a few weeks? The diversions will push many children onto busy roads. There has been little warning and have the schools been informed?

  3. This work should have been programmed during the school holidays as it will impact on the walking and cycling journeys of large numbers of young will inevitably lead to more car journeys, less walking, more congestion all of which is counted to county council and other policies.
