Weather Update

We have received the following brief from Cambs County Council, which we are sharing:

In light of the stormy weather we have had in the last week we wanted to pass on this update received from our Met Office Advisor – please bear in mind that this covers a large area of the East of England and is not Cambridgeshire centric. Therefore, the County may or may not be involved:

“During Thursday afternoon we saw some very active thunderstorm in parts of our region with local impacts, whilst some places had very little rain. As mentioned yesterday, this showery regime has recently dominated the weather across the East of England.

Once again, Friday could see some more heavy showers and thunderstorms, perhaps with hail, over parts of the region during the course of today. Where the heaviest of these showers do occur, they could produce 10 to 15mm of rain in an hour. However, it is possible that a few locations could see as much as 30mm in 2 or 3 hours. Although these totals would be localised, once again impacts could include surface water flooding, poor driving conditions and isolated power outages due to lightning strikes.

As a result of this downpour risk, the Met Office have issued a Yellow Warning for Rain covering most of the East of England, valid from 1100 to 1900 today – and this brings a Medium Likelihood of Low Impacts.

Saturday expecting to be a mainly dry day with some spells of sunshine. Meanwhile, there is an unsettled flavour to the weather on Sunday and into the new working week, with further rain or showers at times and a noticeably cool wind developing.”

In light of this advice we will monitor the situation and take appropriate action. A tweet will be put out linking to the Met Office warning and advice: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&regionName=ee

We want to keep you updated but obviously do not want to alarm anyone but make sure you are prepared just in case.
