New gates at Homefield Park

The fabulous new gates to Homefield Park in Impington are being officially unveiled on Saturday 27th September between 2 and 4pm by Caroline Chivers.

There will be a picnic in the park with music being provided by Histon Junior School Choir and a band from Impington Village College. The Boot public house is providing a bar and barbeque. It promises to be a unique and exciting event.

Some years ago, research undertaken during the Histon Feast demonstrated that there was significant public support for money to be spent on Homefield Park to improve the area to make it more visible and attractive.

The money to pay for the new gates became available as part of the planning obligations associated with the prestigious David Wilson Homes development on the NIAB land in Impington.

The new gates are a significant addition to works already completed as part of an on-going programme of improvements to the park. They improve the visibility of the park along the B1049 and marks it as a public space encouraging people to enter. Much of this work has been undertaken by the Enviro Volunteers.

Histon & Impington Parish Council appointed a professional commissioner Alison Turnbull Associates to develop and manage the project on its behalf. The artist, Tim Ward of Circling the Square, was selected from expressions of interest and through presentation and interview. Tim is a talented and experienced artist working in the realm of public art.
