The new bus shelter at The Coppice (on Cambridge Road opposite Highfield Road) arrived today.
As well as now having a shelter, the bus stop has been raised up allowing easier access by the less mobile. Modern buses are able to lower themselves to eliminate a difference in height.
The provision of the shelter was funded by the Department for Transport under its ‘Better Bus Area Fund’ and administered by the County Council; but the Parish Council had to apply for the funding and help develop the scheme. Finally the poor provision at this stop was highlighted by a resident who had witnessed the difficulty faced by some passengers with the huge difference in height – thanks Nigel!
We did receive a complaint that the original bench had been moved to the side – hopefully with new seating under the shelter (and the retention of the old seat) it was worth the wait.
