HICovid19 weekly digest (7 Aug 20)

At last the summer heat and long summer evenings are finally with us and this brings the opportunity for outdoor leisure and in Covid time that’s double important. There’s a tradition in Histon & Impington of enjoying this time in our public (and not so public) open spaces: late nights, loud music and a few beers. That’s fine and largely acceptable although it does keep a few people awake. It’s tolerated.

What’s not fine though is what’s left behind. Take your bottles home. It’s not asking much and it makes a big difference to others. Please don’t provide more excuse for HI Moaners to moan.

Meanwhile out there in the community:

  • Don’t know who’s idea it was but it’s a good one: tables on the patch of green between the bus shelter and what was the Gin House flower shop
  • We’ve got a date for the reopening of the Boot: Monday 10 Aug 20. Fingers crossed the weather stays good so that we can eat in the garden.
  • Camtrust is planning to reopen in September.
  • At last there’s a sign of life in the Cambridge museum community with the Fitzwilliam opening 11 Aug 20 and Kettle’s Yard 14 Aug 20.
  • And if you want to escape from the summer’s heat the Picturehouse cinema is now open. The Vue and the Light cinemas both open 21 Aug 21.

The businesses in the community are really working hard to do something extra for the community and to give something back. The Urban Shed at the Phoenix is promoting its own ‘eat out to help out’ scheme, the Barley Mow has raised about £850 for MacMillan Cancer, the Raliway vue has run a successful Blues Brothers evening and the Rose & Crown is recruiting extra staff to cope with the Mon-Wed demand. Thank you and well done!

  1. The loud music is one thing but please parents stop your children screaming. When there is something wrong no-one will take any notice
