Bishop’s site: the Inspector delivers

It’s easy to be cynical about what happens in central government and for it to make decisions which don’t appear to reflect the wishes and best interests of local people. And so when we knew that the refusal by South Cambs to allow the Mitre proposal for the Bishop’s site development to go forward was ‘going to appeal’ and that the appeal would be considered by a planning inspector in London it was easy to fear the worst.

However the Inspector delivered. In a well argued judgement (click here) he rejected Mitre’s appeal.

Many thanks  to South Cambs officers for defending its decision, to our district councillors (Jonathan Chatfield, Neil Davies and Edd Stonham) who lobbied on our behalf, to local architects (Archangel and Jonathan Polley Architects) who gave professional input and to the many people who objected to the initial application. And special thanks to Steve Temple for his presence at and input to the planning committee meetings at South Cambs.

Of course it’s not over yet. We wait and see what Mitre now wants to do.
