What is HICOM

This charity was formed in 1998 to take over the Histon Red Cross Minibus and it continues to have two main objectives:

  • provide a minibus service for the elderly in our community;
  • make the vehicle available for all local groups and residents.

Who can use the HICOM Minibus?

Any local organisation or group.

What kind of Minibus is it?

It is a 15 seater Renault Master wheelchair accessible minibus with tail-lift. It contains many features specifically fitted to help existing and potential users, for example:

  • 15 seats including driver
  • all seats can be used by children
  • greater ease of access with built in folding step
  • simple tail-lift
  • comfortable driving position, power steering and better suspension

How can I book the Minibus, and when is it available?

Contact the Minibus Administrator to book and check availability. It is available most evenings and weekends and some weekday afternoons, particularly in the summer.

Who can drive?

You must be over 21, under 70, have driven a car for at least 2 years, havae a clean driving licence, have completed a driver registration form (for insurance) and completed a short familiarisation exercise with the Minibus.

How much does it cost?

60p per mile up to 50 miles, 45p per mile thereafter. Children's and Youth Groups 50p per mile. This price includes everything - fuel, insurance and breakdown cover.
