Save Our Station

The villages of Histon and Impington don't have many grand old buildings, but they do have their Railway Station. This is part of our heritage and for many it holds memories of a busy railway of bygone years.

The County Council want to demolish it to drive the concrete Guided Busway route through the middle of the two villages. We'd prefer to keep the Station building.

The Council says, that would cost too much and that the building has no intrinsic value. We say it's up to the community to decide the future of the building and the site.

It could perhaps provide any number of alternative uses such as a waiting room, internet café, business/retail units, museum, community centre, mini conferencing facility, cycle shelters, disabled parking etc......

Please help us to persuade The County Council to reconsider their decision to demolish the Station. You can do this by signing up below and also by giving us your comments. If you know other people who don't have Internet access but want to sign up, we also have a paper petition which is available at many local shops and businesses.

At the closure point we had 467 on-line signatures - thank you to everyone who signed up - on-line or on paper.

At the time of writing (6 August) negotiations are still ongoing with the County Council - a number of options are being explored to both retain the building, and turn it, and the site, into a village asset. We will publish details as they are firmed up.

Meanwhile, plans are afoot to rescue the gatekeeper's hut. This will be dismantled shortly, to be re-erected in a location still to be confirmed in the vicinity of the station.
