Privacy

The site was originally developed in AOLPress, in a framed format. However, because of issues around search engines it was switched to a non-framed format. This continued to be maintained in AOLPress, but a growing proportion was developed in MacroMedia'sDreamweaver. This
provided a key "library/template" function to automate the update of
the left hand navigation bar throughout the site.
Some pages are held as Microsoft Word (Word 2 for compatibility) or Adobe'sAcrobat
PDF documents.
Graphics are maintained using JASC's
PaintShop Pro and with Serif's
Photoplus 7, though some use has been made of on-line compression/packing
tools to reduce the size of .jpg format images.
The site is hosted at 34sp,
domain names having been bought via UKreg.
The site is now maintained in Opus, see below.
How Does Histon and Impington OnLine Work?
Histon and Impington OnLine uses some software called
Opus which was written by
The Hug using
a language called PHP. The data
is stored in a database called MySQL.
Articles can be written by many authors, which they can do from the web.
The authors don't have to understand HTML.
Articles can be embargoed, so they don't appear in the paper until the
date/time specified, and expired, so they disappear after the date/time
specified.
Articles can be marked to go in the paper's diary, in which case a date and
optionally, start and end times, are specified and it will also appear in a
diary section.
Opus is "open source", which means you are free to use it for your own
projects without a fee. You can find out more about Opus, including the
conditions for use, by reading the online manual.
