From Cambridgeshire Police:
During the past couple of weeks there has been a number of village schools broken into if you are in the vicinity of of one and you happen to see a
suspicious vehicle then try and note the registration number. This will always help any further enquiries. Better still the following will help you to help the Police.
HOW CAN I HELP??
If you see or hear anything suspicious,or think a crime is being committed - this is the kind of information which will be useful to the police:
TIME, DATE, PLACE, PERSONS, VEHICLES
Description of Persons
Note as many details as you can but be sure of your information. Include such details as sex, age, build, height, colour annd dress. Is there
anything really outstanding about the person or persons?
Description of Vehicles
Are these people in a vehicle or is there one nearby that is not normally there?
What is the REGISTRATION NUMBER, COLOUR, and MAKE.
Is there anything unusual or outstanding about the vehicle?
TELEPHONE PREFERENCE SERVICE
In recent weeks I have visited a number of organisations and one of the topics which appears to be of concern to the elderly is that of nuisance phone calls. If like myself you find it frustrating, you are about to start your meal or you are out in the garden when the phone goes. You answer and there at the other end there is a person who states they will not keep you
long then they start their sales pitch. Firstly they have got your name wrong then they just happen to be in the area or you have been selected, whatever the reason.
Therefore today I am passing onto you information
which was passed onto me, some of you may know about but then again others will not have heard about the scheme. Below is the details I have
obtained:-
What is TPS?
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a central opt out service register whereby individuals can register their wish not to receive
unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls. It is a legal requirement that companies do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS.
Who can register?
The term individual includes consumers at their residential address, sole traders and, except in Scotland, partnerships.
How long will it take to become effective?
Once a number has been registered it will become effective in 28 days.
Is there a charge for registering?
No it's free to register on the TPS.
Who pays for the TPS?
No money is received from the Government to run the Service, the direct marketing industry pays for it.
So simply it is a service that helps you to make sure your telephone number is no longer available to organisations that may telephone you with offers and information you do not wish to receive. Before you register however, you should reflect on the fact that registering may well prevent you from receiving information, which you would really like to have-there by cutting you off from relevant and worthwhile opportunities. Registration will prevent organisations that regard you as a customer from calling you again,
unless you have previously told them that you no objection to them calling you.
Further information is available online. Its even possible to register online
