Unwins Appeal

Written 29/04/06

The informal hearing into the appeal by Unwins against refusal of planning permission to redevelop their site (excluding the trials grounds) for housing was heard on Thursday 27th April.

The Parish Council was represented by Cllr Trevor Silk, and the Parish's team was lead by Cllr Mike Mason.

Drainage continues to be a key issue, and Unwins introduced another expert who is now suggesting that the western end (B1049) of the site may not be developable because of the flooding risk. There were also contested views on the status of the site and advertising - since SCDC require at least one year's efforts into finding new employment users before a site can be changed to housing use.

The hearing was over sooner than expected, and the usual accompanied site visit was carried out, with local representatives pointing out key features to the Inspector.

SCDC have made a formal request for costs, an unusual step for the Planning Authority. It is thought that this is an indication that SCDC felt that the appeal is likely to be refused.
