Parish Council representatives went to a meeting called by the County Council on April 12th to look at the relocation of the Cowley Road site. The principle has already been agreed, and the City Council have earmarked the site for housing.
£3M funding has been provided by Government (under the Growth Area Development Grant scheme), but this is dependent on the project being completed by March 2008.
The County have looked at 10 sites - but have narrowed that down to just two because of the time and money constraints. These two are immediately adjacent to the A10/Butt Lane junction, either north or south (ie closer to the A14 - and favoured by those present). Once built there will be space for 750 cars (at least) and 10 minute frequency buses to the City Centre.
There will now be a period of more detailed design and consultation work, followed by public consultation in May/June, with site construction expected to start in July 2007.
There was no solution to the issues arising from the A10/Butt Lane junction, nor how to improve the cycle bridge. The likelihood of increased traffic on Butt Lane (ie Impington Lane, Burgoynes Road,
Milton Road as well) was covered, and some even suggested closing the road to through traffic.
The Council would very much welcome your thoughts and comments on this - and support during the public consultation phase.
