The Police Neighbourhood Panel met late last month to look at Policing priorities in the immediate area. The Panel, selected on the night, consisted of District Councillors, a County Councillor, representatives of other agencies and a small number of members of the public.
From the "hot" topics presented by Police analysts as possibles they chose, as priorities (text from Chris Burns, Histon CBM Sgt.):
1. Waterbeach: Station Rd and Railway station. Since the meeting SCDC have
been approached with a view to retiming their refuse collection. We are
awaiting a reply. Highways have painted extra yellow lines in the vicinity
and these have had an effect already. The Inspector, CBM and myself also
made a site visit following which a meeting is taking place with the
Highways to improve what is already there. A further meeting is being
arranged with BTP to deal with crime aspects on their property.
2. Milton. Sycamores and Tesco area. We have been working well with Tescos
in this area and will continue to do so. We are also raising an action plan
in which we can work with other agencies including the Fire Brigade and
Youth service to improve this area.
3. Drug and Alcohol issues in the Neighbourhood. This will need more
thought as it is a very large remit which must involve a number of
agencies. I have a meeting this week with the Inspector where we can push
this forward.
You might recall that Billie Cunningham and myself took note on a flip
chart when residents raised other concerns. By far, the main topic was
speeding and traffic regulation. 5 out of 7 villages had this as their
concern. We have now implemented a local action plan which has started this
week to target specific areas which you mentioned whilst also hitting
areas which we are aware of. These were other points which are being
brought to the attention of the community officers.
