Arbury Camp

Arbury Camp, the area of land to the south of the A14, and the east of Cambridge Road (sometimes wrongly called Histon Road) is in Impington.

It had been owned by Chivers, and was, until early 2000's, farmed.

The land had been taken out of the Green Belt in 1994, and was the subject of a planning application for a large out of town shopping centre (lead by Sainsbury's). However, the combined efforts of County, District and Parish Councils, and a change of planning regulations, defeated this.

However, in 2001, J J Gallaghers submitted a planning application for a mixed use development of 900 homes, 18,000 square metres of business (office) use, a school and a number of other uses. Scope for this had previously been agreed by a government planning inspector as part of the local plan process.

In mid 2005, planning permission was finally granted for the "master plan" and in September works started to provide the infrastructure - drainage, roads etc.

As part of this work, changes to Cambridge Road, King's Hedges Road and the A14 off slip road are required. A plan of these works is available (202Kb).
