Plans have been published on behalf of Unwins to turn their site, and adjacent land, into housing. It is only an outline application - but if passed would eventually lead to development. The number of houses is unclear, and won't be confirmed until later in the process. However, the documents refer to 100, and SCDC planners suggest at least 80 on the 2.122 hectare site.
The area outlined and shaded in red is proposed for housing, with access via a mini-roundabout at the current entrance (opposite 34 Impington Lane). The blue shaded area is the trials ground, which is currently in the green belt, and is not part of the current application.
At Impington Parish Council's Planning Committee meeting to discuss the matter, 30 residents were present and raised their concerns. These included the loss of local employment opportunities, flooding (particularly closer to Glebe Way), traffic volumes on Impington Lane, safety issues for the young people using the route to IVC as well as the general lack of infrastructure and shortage of services in the community.
The plans are available for inspection at the Parish Office (call 235906 to check availability). Residents were urged by the Committee to write individually to object to The Director of Development Services, South Cambridgeshire District Council, South Cambridgeshire Hall, Cambourne Business Park, Cambourne, Cambridgeshire CB3 6EA, quoting application reference: S/0321/05/0 by 1st April.
There are online details of the application available from SCDC
