Churchyard Wall rebuild

Since July 2002 a fund-raising sub-committee of Impington Parochial Church Council has been working hard to raise sufficient funds for the rebuilding of this historic wall.

A generous award of £500 from the Parish Council enabled the fund-raisers to get started. Since then, the support of local people and well-wishers has been wonderful.

Now, in February 2005, £82,000 of the £87,000 needed has been given or promised. Grants from various organisation and local authorities have added greatly to this Fund, culminating in a £50,000 grant awarded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It is now possible for the builder to be authorised to commence work in April 2005, to rebuild the wall to a specification approved by English Heritage. It will include as much of the heritage material in the present wall as is re-usable.

There is, however, a reservation. By the time that work commences, the committee must show that the £5,000 shortfall can be covered. Donations, or the offer of interest-free loans would be warmly welcomed for this "last lap" of a long-drawn out but, finally, successful campaign. It is hoped that all who have supported the appeal, in every way, will be pleased with the results; a secure wall which preserves an important piece of Impington's history.
