Jobs saved at Unwins

More than 50 jobs at Unwins Seeds have been saved after it was announced the company will be bought out. Westland Horticulture, based in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, has said it has reached an agreement and will buy the firm and retain all staff.

Edward Conroy, Westland's managing director, said: "We're determined to turn Unwins' losses into profit by 2005. We will develop the Unwins brand through maintaining and growing its own separate sales and operations team and seed trials will be reintroduced."
