Traffic Calming - Details

Written 03/07/04

The background to these proposals is that over the last two years the County Council has been traffic calming villages that suffer most from rat-running in the vicinity of the A14. There are about 20 such villages, and the programme is now into its second year. The County has been given extra money by Government (this does not come from Council Tax at all) to do this work, but has to spend it in this two year period. This is therefore a "once in a lifetime" opportunity for our community.

The proposals include some works arising from other traffic studies in the villages (safety) and in some areas are also backed by detailed information on speeds from surveys. Input to this exercise has also included the results of the village appraisal where 75% of respondents said "yes" to the question "Do you believe something needs to be done to control or reduce traffic flows in Histon and Impington?", and 40% supported measures in Station Road.

Two exhibitions have been held to allow residents to inspect the plans, and question the experts who have developed the materials.

Details (please be patient, some of the associated images are large) are available of:

Consultation on the proposals has now been closed by the County Council.
