Speed cushions are designed to slow cars down, whilst allowing the wheels of buses and other wide wheel base vehicles to pass either side of the raised area. They are usually installed in pairs and consist of two rectangular raised areas, side by side.

Less visually intrusive than road humps
Preferred by bus operators and emergency services
Disadvantages
Parking can cause problems
Don't reduce motorcycle speeds
Some ambulances are adversely affected
More difficult to construct than road humps
