Juli Stallabrass, SCDC, writes: it has been brought to my attention about another "scam-type" collection due to start in Histon/Impington & possible other villages tomorrow (Thursday 24th).
Once again please be aware that these people are UNLICENSED and may NOT be collecting for charity but for themselves.
The leaflet concerned is on a white background with red writing - The main part at the top is white writing on red background (now also black text on a blue/white background) saying "UNWANTED CLOTHING COLLECTION" and claims that they will donate your items to Eastern European
people on low income. It also states these people will be willing to "purchase clothing", which makes no sense at all when considering they are supposed to be donating these items anyway!
I would urge people to spread the word about this illegal collection to their local Neighbourhood Watch organisers, Sheltered Housing Schemes and any vulnerable groups in your village, to make them aware of the scam.
Other Councils including ourselves around the Country have already made efforts in conjuction with Trading Standards to stop this and other similar organisations from trying these scams in the UK, but unfortunately it is a long process to track them down.
If you have any information regarding the above, or have any enquiries regarding licensing of House to House Collections please contact Juli Stallabrass at the Licensing Section on (01954) 713024 or 713132.
