Millennium News - Issue 2

March 1999 - 300 days to go!

LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Thank you to all those who have taken the trouble to comment on our first Millennium Newsletter. The response has been very favourable and made the huge effort to get the project off the ground worthwhile. The Committee feels that so far you are happy with our first steps towards celebrating the Millennium here in Histon and Impington. If you look at the centre pages of this Newsletter you will see that we have made progress with the Calendar for the year 2000.

Slowly businesses and societies are coming forward with either donations towards the whole project or with indications that they wish to sponsor a particular event, or even organise one themselves. Do let us know if you are organising an event. It will be important for its success that it does not clash with a similar event elsewhere in the villages. Writing about your event in the Newsletter will also contribute to its success.

You will see that there is an article by the Rev. Hugh McCurdy about the plans to renovate the St Andrews Church Halls to turn them into a Community Centre for both villages. He would welcome your comments on his suggestions. Likewise we would like to hear your comments and suggestions with regard to the Millennium Calendar. Therefore St Andrews Church and the Histon and Impington Millennium Committee would like to invite you to view plans and to make your comments at the St Andrews Church Halls, School Hill, Histon

Saturday 20 March 1999 from 10.30am to 1.00pm
Saturday 27 March 1999 from 10.30am to 1.00pm
Saturday 17 April 1999 from 10.30am to 1.00pm
Saturday 24 April 1999 from 10.30am to 1.00pm

We hope you will join us for a cup of coffee and a chat.

Don't forget that the Millennium Committee will be organising events during the first 24 hours and the last 24 hours of the year 2000. We have tentative plans at the moment, but we would enjoy hearing from all villagers what you would like to see happen.

If you want to do this, drop in on on any of the above dates or fill in the enclosed card and drop it into any of the 'Millennium Boxes' in the the post offices or the library.

You could also send the card to the Secretary or your comments by e-mail.

You can call up our very own website (you're already there!!).

I do hope you will enjoy participating in the Millennium celebrations

Anne L. Ryan
