Millennium News - Issue 3

June 1999 - 200 days to go!

LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND VICE-CHAIRMAN

We are delighted at the progress of events for the Millennium celebrations in the village since the last issue of our Newsletter in March. You may remember that four drop-in Saturday morning events were planned. Many people came along and showed their support for our efforts. They gave us some good ideas which we hope to include in the Year 2000 Calendar. Thank you all for taking such an interest.

The countdown is gaining momentum and the new Millennium will soon be upon us. This offers a grand opportunity for all of us to come together and to celebrate as a community. It is such a unique event that our children's children and future generations will want to know how we celebrated the New Year 1999/2000 here in Histon and Impington.

We are still very keen to receive offers of help to organise and sponsor events in the Millennium Calendar. Also, if you are so inclined, we would be delighted to receive contributions to the next issue of the Millennium Newsletter, due out in September (please send these to the editor, 41 Park Lane, Histon CB4 9JJ by 10 September at the latest, and preferably long before then). Poems, stories, discussions and articles with a Millennium theme would be welcome from resident creative writers and artists, or anyone wishing to share their thoughts about this momentous occasion. We would be particularly pleased to receive contributions from local youth, as you are the voice of the next Millennium.

We hope that the whole community will catch our enthusiasm for the Millennium Calendar. Please join us in making it work by participating in the events of the first 24 hours and all the events happening throughout the year. Although funds are limited, the goodwill and participation of residents of both villages will make this a special time to remember.

Chairman Vice-Chairman
