Hunt for butterfly & moth

Written 24/07/10

The White-spotted Pinion Moth and White-letter Hairstreak Butterfly are both UK Biodiversity Priority Species that may occur in Histon and Impington. Butterfly Conservation is organising survey work for these two species thanks to a grant from SITA Trust using Landfill Tax Credits. Cambridgeshire is the national stronghold for The White-spotted Pinion. Both species use Elm as a caterpillar foodplant.

Butterfly Conservation will be organising light traps during the evening between late July and mid August. These traps will not harm any moths caught and they will be released.

Please get in touch if you would like to help or have seen either of these insects. We are also interested to hear about any significant stands of living Elm in the area.
