The Department of Health is seeking views from the public, from healthcare professionals and from other staff working in the NHS on new proposals that give patients a much greater choice of GP practice.
The consultation sets out the different options for organising healthcare for patients, and the potential implications of their choices if the current system of GP practice boundaries is removed.
It has been developed following a period of initial engagement with NHS colleagues, GPs, practice managers, and professional and patient groups.
As set out in the coalition agreement 'Our Programme for Government', the current Government has committed to give every patient the right to register with the GP practice they want, without being restricted by where they live. It is clear from the consultation responses so far that an overwhelming number of people feel that it is right for people to have this flexibility, which is why we must make this work. There are clearly a number of logistical issues to be worked through which is why it is so important to give local clinicians, NHS managers and members of the public an opportunity contribute to the plans.
Have your say! - closes 2nd July.
