FOREWORD BY THE CHAIRMEN OF HISTON AND IMPINGTON PARISH COUNCILS

The Parish Councils of Histon and Impington have supported the Community 2000 Group over the last year with funding, and also by sponsoring the Children's Memento which will be distributed in January 2000.

The Councils are now pleased to jointly sponsor this final edition of the Millennium Newsletter, as it affords an opportunity to congratulate Anne Ryan and her Committee for all the hard work put into the Millennium Calendar on behalf of all the residents of Histon and Impington.

It is some 16 months since a public meeting was called for all interested parties to put forward ideas for celebrating the Millennium. The current Community 2000 Group was formed as a result of that meeting, with the remit of fundraising, of communicating with the community by means of a regular Newsletter, of providing leadership and to invite action from others; in other words, to act as a focal point for information, for raising the profile and to support the work of others. The Group still requires some sponsorship to ensure that the programme of events can go ahead, and the Councils join in encouraging potential supporters to come forward. It is not too late for new ideas to be incorporated in the calendar, and fresh faces are always being sought by the Group.

The Calendar for the Year 2000 shows just how well the Group has met the challenge, with something for just about everyone spread across the whole year. Let us come together to support their work by attending the celebrations and to enjoy the community spirit of the two villages.
