THE RED CROSS IN HISTON

There has been a Red Cross Centre in the village for over eighty years. We are here to cover any emergency, whether it be a major incident or a minor crisis in the community. Our members are fully trained and on call 24 hours a day throughout the year. We all enjoy working for the community and it is our aim for the new millennium to be able to enlarge, to expand and to introduce new services.

AT PRESENT we have an active Youth Group, which meets during school term on Tuesday evenings between 7 and 8pm. The Adult Group also meets on Tuesdays all through the year from 8 to 9.30pm. The meetings are held at our centre in Park Lane behind the church halls.

From this centre we run a small MEDICAL LOAN service, where wheelchairs or Commodes can be borrowed.

On the third Wednesday of every month we run a COFFEE MORNING. This is held at the community centre in Kay Hitch Way at 10am, by kind permission of Barbara.

OUR AIMS FOR THE YEAR 2000 are to:

Enlarge our VOLUNTEER MEMBERSHIP

Expand our MEDICAL LOAN service in order to offer a wider range of equipment

Introduce THERAPEUTIC CARE, TRANSPORT AND ESCORT, DOMICILLARY CARE.

Offer Training in EMERGENCY LIFE SUPPORT, BASIC FIRST AID, STANDARD FIRST AID, INFANT AND CHILD CARE

Run a BABYSITTERS' COURSE

OUR GOAL is:

To have a suitable base to work from.

Our present premises are under threat of demolition when the church halls make way for the proposed Village Community Centre. As we require 24 hour access to our equipment in case of emergencies, we do not fit in with the present plans for the hall.

If you can help us find new premises or if you would like to receive further details about the Red Cross in Histon, please contact the Centre Organiser
