MEMENTO

for under 16 year olds

The Histon and Impington Millennium Committee are compiling an historical map to present as a gift to all children of both villages who are age 16 and under on 1 January 2000. It can be retained by each child as an item of memorabilia which, as they get older, will be a reminder of where they lived on 1 January 2000.

The Memento is in the form of a map showing historic sites or events from both villages. At least one landmark from each century of the last 1000 years will be depicted and described. The Memento provides not just a short history of the past millennium; children will be able to walk around the villages on the 'Millennium Walk' with family and friends, using the map as a guide. The Histon and Impington Millennium Committee is working closely with the Village Society to ensure that all the historical information is accurate.

The Parish Councils of Histon and Impington are supporting the Memento. The Millennium Committee has asked all schools and playgroups for names and numbers of local children attending at that time, so that the maps can be presented to all who are entitled to a copy. However, the Committee is aware that some children who live in the villages do not go to Histon and Impington schools. If you are the parent of such a child and have not already registered, please send us his or her name, address and date of birth (see below *), so that we can ensure that they will receive their copy.
