B1049 - everyone's got an opinion

Written 27/09/08

David Jenkins has started a blog about the B1049 - he says:

It's not a great road and 'something must be done' but the County Council seems disinclined to do anything so it's time that we bring everyone's opinions together and make a case for change. This is what this blog is about, enabling anyone who has an opinion about the B1049 to express it so that such a case can be made.

Over the next weeks we will focus on different sections of the road. When you have an opinion join in. Comment is free!

All the main routes into cambridge carry very heavy commuting traffic and this is because over the years there has been no reasonably priced housing near to employment and hence everyone has to commute.

Ely has grown in size, many people commute from there to cambridge and the A10 has reached capacity.

I suggest the only way of solving the B1049 traffic problem is to try to provide reasonably priced housing nearer cambridge but interestingly when sites come forward in Histon (Unwins) everyone objects!

The B1049 between bridge road and the green is (by design and purpose) a 40 MPH road. There have been NO fatalities or serious injuries due to speeding on the road, there are pedestrian crossings, lights at every junction, it is by historical evidence a very safe road. If it ain't broke - don't fix it !?!
