The news that we'd all been fearing finally became public yesterday - the Post Office has decided to close Impington Post Office - and it will close in a fortnight.

The shop won't close - it will still be open for business - still ready to serve us - but for Post Office services we will be expected to go to Histon or Histon Road.

Notwithstanding the submission from the Council (Adobe/PDF, 57KB), the work of Impington Parish Councillors, supported by David Jenkins and Jonathan Chatfield, and the support of all Councillors and both Parish Councils this has been purely a numbers game - the one Post Office in the County that was saved was immediately replaced by another to close.

Our case was based around the needs of the disabled, where convenient parking and access made Impington more attractive than Histon; business use from Vision Park and elsewhere and likely growth in business when the Guided Bus starts up. The County group asked for a stay of execution until the Guided Bus was operating, but Postwatch didn't support the bid at all.

Our thoughts go out to the owners and staff.
