Arbury Park residents vote for new parish

Written 22/04/08

Residents in Arbury Park have been surveyed on their views regarding the plans to set up a new parish, with its own Parish Council.

There was strong support from respondents for the creation of a new parish. The latest Local Government Act provides for a choice of names - Parish, Community or Neighbourhood Council, and residents clearly supported Community.

At the same time, residents were asked their opinion regarding a possible name change from Arbury Park. Whilst the site was most recently termed Arbury Camps there is considerable scope for confusion with the Arbury area of Cambridge City. Again, Local Government Acts provide for the possibility of a name change, and residents indicated a clear preference for Orchard Park. Whilst managed by Chivers significant areas of the site were orchards so this is a link to recent history for the site.

There is widespread support for the creation of the new parish, including from Impington Parish Council, and District and County Councillors representing the area. It is hoped that the decision will be taken to the District Council full meeting in May to move ahead.
