This is the fourth anniversary issue of Impington News, and so this seems
a good time to take stock of our achievements and set our direction for the future.
We recognise that Impington is part of a larger community and so we have recently
held discussions with representatives of Histon and Impington Parish Councils
and Parish Churches to consider the expansion of Impington News to cover the whole
community. We believe this would lead to more frequent publication, with better
coverage of local issues and coming events. Advertisers would have greater coverage,
and distribution - one of our perennial problems - would be simplified.
Please tell us how you would like to see Impington News develop. Call us on
232523 or write to 39, New Road, Impington CB4 9LU.

The Mad Hatters After School Club has expanded to provide a much needed Holiday
Playscheme for primary age children. The first Holiday Playscheme ran between
26th and 30th October, opening between 9 am and 6 pm.
Until now, the club has provided fun and activities for local children after
school until 6pm on a regular or occasional basis. The club meets at the Village
College Youth Centre.
During future holiday periods we are hoping to develop shorter, special activity/play
sessions for children who would like to attend for part of the morning or afternoon.
The club has recently been inspected and assessed by Kids' Clubs Network,
and has received a Level 1 Quality Assurance Award. We are hoping to achieve the
higher Level 2 Award by Christmas.
For more information, contact David Coleman, our Playleader, by calling in
at the Youth Centre weekdays between 5.30 & 6 pm or phone Jo Lane on 234127
in the evening.
In Brief...
Allotments
A number of allotments, with good quality soil, are available at Park
Farm and Clay Close Lane. The annual rental is £12, and if you are interested
you should contact Bidwells, agents for the owners, Chivers.
The Parish also has a number of allotments that can be made available
at £3.50 per year. Please contact the Clerk (235906) for more information.
Thank you Impington!
Oxfam would like to thank all the local people who took part in the
sponsored Walk last May. The day was a fantastic success with over 1400 walkers
who stepped out in support of Oxfam's Cut Conflict Campaign. So far, the total
raised is £39,000, with sponsorship money still coming in.
Camsight, the society for the blind and partially sighted, would like
to thank the residents of Impington for their generosity, and in particular the
kind people who collected for them earlier this year. The village raised £259
to help blind and partially sighted people in the county. Camsight are most grateful
for this wonderful result.
...Volunteers still needed
Camsight still needs volunteers in Impington to help run its "New Ways
Workshop", where visually impaired people can learn skills which make them more
confident to live independently at home. The workshop is led by rehabilitation
workers, supported by volunteers. Enthusiasm is much more important than experience
as full training will be given. If you can help, or would like more information,
please give Jenny Rolfe a call on 420033.
A small world!
Barbara Coe, in Melbourne, Australia, contacted us after reading Impington
News on the World Wide Web. In our last issue we published her appeal: "My husband's
family came from Histon to Melbourne in the 1850's, and I've been tracing the
Coe ancestry for the last few years. Does anyone know of a Coe family in Histon
at that time?"
Her plea was heard, and we are delighted to have been able to put her
in contact with relatives still living in our area!
