| Histon and Impington Trek 2000
1st October 2000
A rare opportunity to walk across farmland not normally open to
the public. The full walk was 6 miles, taking some 2 hours for the fit (and longer
for the less so, or for those who wanted to linger over the views). The runners
managed it in 50 minutes.
A total of over 660 people, young, and not so young, took part.
Here are some pictures of the afternoon, almost all of which was
in splendid autumn sunshine.
| Trekkers started from Histon Junior School from 1:00, and the first group
reached checkpoint 2, where the route left public roads, at around 1:15 |
|
|
|
The second group - hoping that International Rescue were not actually
going to be needed! |
| By 1:30 large groups of walkers were approaching! |
 |
 |
Young people from the ATC who were taking part (they provided valuable support
to the organisers on the day) |
| A group of the ATC decided to run the course, here silhouetted in the
afternoon sun. |
 |
 |
Eleanor Whitehead, a vital member of the management committee, and a major
contributor to the Trek Guide, taking a well earned rest! |
| The "whippers in" with other organisers. They followed through the
course, at the end, to ensure that all was well. |
 |
 |
Members of the organising committee talking outside the refreshment tent at
Histon Junior School while waiting for the walkers to return.
Some of the walkers covering the course were sponsored, and their sponsorship
forms were marked at the tent.
|
| Some of the younger early finishers were happy to run to the refreshment tent
at the end of the walk. |
 |
Thanks to all - Management Committee, marshals, marquee erectors, ATC, Red
Cross, Police; and to the landowners - Mr P Ambrose, Mr A Bradley (Unwins), Mr
S Graves and Mrs J Rowley for making it happen; and to the Lottery for covering
all of the costs.
